Since I’m trying to stick with my healthy summer habits all throughout the fall, I’m really trying to pay attention to what helps me stay motivated and what doesn’t.
Self-awareness is key here.
If you’ve read Healthy Habits | Happy Heart for awhile, you know that I’m all about my outdoor workouts (especially the beach!) and meal prep is my best friend. Literally if I didn’t cook every Sunday, I’d be going through the McDonald’s drive through every night. AND I don’t even like McDonalds. That’s just how crazy I get without my meal prep.
But lately, I’ve found three other tricks that have helped me stay motivated/on track!
SO here it goes.
I don’t care if you use a fitness planner, your iPhone calendar or notes, or a piece of paper. Just plan your entire week in advance. Just like meal prepping, I would die if I didn’t plan my workouts. OK…that’s a little dramatic but you get the point. And I even schedule each workout into my day so I know exactly what I’m doing for each workout and when it’s happening.
I can find a million excuses not to go to the gym or run or take a group class. Especially if I don’t have a plan. I can’t TELL you how many times I’ve walked into the gym without a single idea of what I was going to do that day. And each time I come up with an excuse what I don’t need to workout and leave. HA. So pathetic.
So planning my workouts gives me like a checklist that I need to complete each day. It’s perfect!
This is a HUGE one. Having my friends help me stay accountable makes all the difference. Personally, I’m a huge fan of group texts & Facebook groups. Having a bunch of amazing gal pals in one place makes it easy to celebrate the good days, and get support for the not-so-good-days.
And it’s obviously perfect for accountability. What do I do when I finished a sweaty workout? Snap a pic (obvi) and send it to my group text! And I loooove it when my friends do it too! It’s kind of a weird/twisted game of who can look the UGLIEST after a workout. Because I mean, if you look good by any means after a workout, you’re doing something WRONG!
Instagram and other forms of social media work just as well. I’m all for putting a sweaty gym selfie on snapchat. Other ways I know people stay accountable is meeting up for a workout with friends or scheduling with a personal trainers.
As long as it keeps you on track, it’s working!
I’m alllll for a new pair of leggings. And feeling good in new workout gear is SO motivating! When I feel good in some new clothes, my first instinct is to get to the gym and SWEAT. So if you’re ever feeling discouraged or overwhelmed with a new fitness goal, slip in to some slimming activewear.
You’ll literally feel like a new woman. I swear.
Or if you’re OBSESSED with activewear like me, I make new workout clothes my reward for achieving a new fitness goal!
Okay, so what’re your favorite tricks to stay motivated and the workout grind? I’d love to add to my list! With all these fall treats coming our way, we need all the help we can get!
