A lot of y’all have snapped me about them recently so it’s time to SPILL.
So recently, I was in Texas for an impromptu family reunion with all my cousins & aunts & uncles. You know, the whole shabang. While we’re sitting around a table, gnawing on some baby back ribs (how southern of me, no?), I mentioned that I get monthly B12 shots. And my family members gave me the weirdest look I’ve ever seen and collectively started yelling out, “Ugh you’re such a California girl!”
I totally took it as a compliment. HA.
But what it made me realized is that B12 shots are sort of a new, unheard of thing that a lot of people are unfamiliar with. And let me tell ya, you NEED to get familiar!
So here are some facts about B12 shots:
+ WebMD tells us that, “Vitamin B12 helps your body use fat and carbohydrates for energy and make new protein. It is also important for normal blood, cells, and nerves.” B12 works through red blood cells, allowing them to carry more oxygen throughout your body at once.
+ B12 is a natural metabolism booster, which basically means the rate at which your body burns calories. A higher metabolism makes losing weight an easier and faster process.
+ B12 is a powerful detoxifying agent! This source states, “Vitamin B12 has been individually studied in the detoxification of MANY different substances including arsenic, mercury, glutamines from artificial sweeteners and MSG, mycotoxins, and cyanide.” Y’all know I loooove anything that detoxes the body!
+ It boosts your mood. Like I can actually tell a difference after my monthly B12 shots, and so can anyone else who comes in contact with me. LOL. This, in a huge way, is because B12 supports and protects your nervous system. And an improperly functioning nervous system can lead to several emotional & mental problems such as depression and anxiety.
+ When B12 is injected straight into the bloodstream, you absorb MUCH MORE of the vitamin than when you take it orally. This is the digestive process breaks down some of the vitamin and less is absorbed into the bloodstream. So you get more of its amazing effects when you get a B12 shot!
Personally, I get a B12 shot every month. And I make sure to take a B12 vitamin every day along with my daily supplement regimen. There’s no right way to take B12, really. It’s pretty much up to you! Since I know how my body responds when I have enough B12 in my system, it’s pretty easy for me to tell when I’m deficient.
So if that’s the case, I head to Infuse Wellness (my fave vitamin bar in LA) to get an extra dose! Yes, vitamin bars actually exist, it’s a totally “California girl” thing, you could say.
B12 is found in animal products such as meat & eggs. So vegans and vegetarians can have a tougher time getting enough of the vitamin. And that’s where B12 shots come in! But again, it’s totally up to personal preference.
If you feel low in energy or sluggish more often than not, you should probably have your vitamin levels checked to see if you’re B12 deficient. And also make sure to consult a doctor before starting a new vitamin regimen!
If you’re not from California and vitamin bars don’t exist where you live, Google it. Most doctors will administer B12 shots, too. You can get the supplement in liquid form! I use it in between my monthly B12 shots but they’re great regardless. I like this one the best.
So anyways, who else is as crazy about B12 shots as I am? Has anyone else tried it? Thoughts?!
Let me know in the comments, babes.
