I’m getting back to reality today because I just had the greatest long (well, EXTRA long) weekend in awhile with my fam. We went to Branson, Missouri, which is this little gem of a town full of all kinds of entertainment and it’s right on the prettiest lake! So we spent a few days relaxing, cruising around on a pontoon, and eating A LOT of good food.
Let’s just say I’m doing a major detox today HA. My apple cider vinegar shot this morning was a MUST.
I took a break from blogging and social media and focused on the fam too. Major unplug, for sure. Well, except for when I HAD to document the fact that I got to HOLD FREAKING SLOTHS on Snapchat. Yes, I actually got to play with sloths and my life was seriously complete. Sloth have the coolest lives.
I’m constantly using coconut oil. Like it’s a borderline addiction at this point.
Any opportunity I get, I find ways to incorporate it into my self-care/skincare/diet/life in general. Y’all know I’m all about the NATURAL approach to pretty much everything, and coconut oil is about as natural as it gets. No chemicals, nothing processed, just coconut oil.
I’ve done a lot of research on different ways to use coconut oil, and only a few were total disasters while most of them I still use every week (if not every single day).
+ Toothpaste: I mix some baking soda with coconut oil and brush away. Absolutely NO chemicals! Plus the baking soda kind of acts as an “exfoliant” for your teeth so I feel like I get more of a clean feeling brushing with coconut oil & baking soda than I do with regular toothpaste.
+ Oil pulling: If you don’t know what oil pulling is, I highly suggest you do your research–or maybe I’ll just do a full post on it–because this is just too good to not know about. Basically, oil pulling helps with the detoxification of your mouth. You put a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 15-20 minutes while all the plaque and toxins in your mouth are PULLED off of your teeth & tongue. It totally whitens my smile and leaves my mouth feeling fresh. You can use normal coconut oil and even add a few drops of peppermint oil for flavor, but I’m loving this product by Skinny & Co. It’s coconut oil prepared specifically for oil pulling!
+ Exfoliation: I add brown sugar to my coconut oil and rub it ALLLLL over my bod while I’m in the shower. The brown sugar acts as a color correcting agent so it helps even out any sun spots or weird tan lines you’re not a fan of. Skinny & Co. also makes a great sugar scrub made with COCONUT sugar (no surprise there) that I’ve been using lately. I try to exfoliate my body every 2 or 3 days and my face every week!
+ Shaving: Before I started waxing, I used coconut oil instead of shaving cream. It was perfect because I kinda killed two birds with one stone…the coconut oil also moisturized my skin while I was shaving!
+ Conditioner: Okay this is where I’ve seen miracles occur. I have the thinnest & most brittle hair of anyone I’ve ever known. I dyed (aka BLEACHED) my hair for about 5 years and it totally screwed up the texture, strength, and oil balance in my hair. And since I stopped dying it about a year and a half ago, it’s been a constant struggle to repair all the damage. But recently, I started running coconut oil through my hair and leaving it in for about 30 minutes before I hop in the shower and IT HAS DONE WONDERS. My hair is way more manageable and healthier!
+ Perfume: Add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil in some coconut oil and rub it into your skin. It leaves a nice scent on your skin pretty much all day AND it’s moisturizing! Are you seeing a trend yet?? This facial oil is mixed with lavender oil & acts as a perfume/moisturizer!
+ In smoothies: HEALTHY FATS are so important in our diet because they promote weight loss, boost your metabolism, and improve brain function. I like to add a tablespoon of coconut oil to my green smoothies for my daily dose of healthy fats.
