I feel like 2016 came and went in the blink of an eye. It seems like it was yesterday that I was giving y’all a rundown of my NY resolutions of 2016! And here we are, 2017 came at us fast. HELLO, what’s up, it’s HERE.
But when I look back on 2016, I can’t help but feel really proud. I mean, there was a lot of personal growth going on throughout the year. I feel like I sort of grew up a little bit and really established my long term priorities for my career, my health, my personal life, and (of course) this blog.
Running Healthy Habits | Happy Heart was a huge part of all the positivity that this year brought! And a lot of that positivity was thanks to all of you.
All my readers are SUCH babes & I’m thankful for all of you!
So yeah, 2016 was a great year for me. But on to 2017, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what it has in store! I want to keep the accountability going (because it worked SO well this past year) and let y’all in on my goals for this upcoming year!
Last year was all about trying new things but this year is going to be about self-care.
A huge focus for me this year is going to be mediation. I’ve definitely dabbled in meditating in the past, and it brings about so many positive changes in my life every time I get a good rhythm going. I love starting my mornings off with a quick 5-minute meditation. I can check in with my body, calm my mind, and set my intentions for the day! So my goal is to practice meditation as much as I possibly can. Hopefully once a day!
So I have tried to get really into yoga once before. I bought a 1-month unlimited membership to a local yoga studio and tried to go twice a week and I actually really liked it! It helped ease my anxiety, lengthened my muscles, helped with soreness/tightness, and I even had a better night’s sleep. So starting today, I’m embarking on a 30-day yoga challenge! That’s right, every day in January. It sounds intense, I know, but I’m an extremist at heart. HA. And following the 30-day yoga challenge, I want to incorporate yoga into my weekly fitness schedule more frequently!
I really just need to do a whole blog post on affirmations because I freaking LOVE them. Basically, positive affirmations are statements that you say to yourself to combat self-sabotaging/hateful/negative thoughts. The act of saying positive affirmations over and over basically replaces the negative thought with the positive one.
So I guess you could say my goal is to use affirmations to get rid of any and all thoughts of a negative self-image. Because let’s face it, we all have negative thoughts about ourselves! So I want to replace them with positive ones.
My schedule is SO busy, guys. Seriously I feel like Monday-Friday I don’t stop to catch my breath. And on the weekends, I fill my time with friends, blogging events, and weekly chores. To be honest, my weekends can feel more exhausting than the weekdays! But the point is, I realized this past year I never fit in enough time for self-care in my week; I pretty much just keep going full speed until I have no energy left in me. However, it’s not the most functional way to take care of myself.
So this year I’m making time for self-care. And I mean A LOT of time. I’m taking long baths, at home facials, long stretching sessions while listening to podcasts, sweat pants for DAYS, and a lot of relaxation in between. It’s so important to take care of yourself because running yourself dry makes for a lot of unproductive days. I’ve committed to taking small breaks for self-care every day. What I decided to do for that break is my choice, as long as I’m taking time for ME.
I think they’re all really doable! And I especially think these goals will make for an AMAZING year.
BUT, there’s more.
Since YOU, my readers, are so amazing. I decided to help you kick off your year too, with a 4 week guided workout plan! For the month of January, I’ll be posting a different workout Monday-Friday so that you can get your sweat on!
