I reealllly dislike avocados.
I feel like I’m breaking girl code or something but personally, I think avocados have no taste and it adds very little to my meals. I can handle guac on my Chipotle bowl but that’s about all the avocado I enjoy.
And on that note, how can something that tastes SO GOOD like guacamole come from such a bland & lifeless fruit (if you can even call it a fruit)? It makes no sense. I mean, seriously, you have to mix so many other spices and add-ins to make the avocado taste good. My love for avocados is right up there with Jenna Marbles, I just don’t get how people love them so much.
Okay, I’ll stop ranting now. HA.
I know, I know. It’s full of healthy fats & other benefits! How could I NOT eat them? Well unfortunately I’ve been adding them to my breakfast toast and kind of just sucking it up. So fun, right?
I’ve tried everything (literally everything) to make avo toast tolerable. I’ve even just slapped some legit guac on the bread, but I feel like that totally defeats the purpose of eating avocado in the first place. I felt like I was doomed to eat plain ole’ avo for the rest of my life.
But not anymore! I’m tired of boring, nasty, tasteless avocado toast. So I created my own avo toast that is FULL of flavor & won’t bore you to tears!
& you wanna know the secret?
Yes, I’m totally serious about this. Adding hummus to your avocado toast is a breakfast game-changer. Adding hummus to anything makes it taste better. Currently, my favorite combo is jicama and tomato basil hummus from Trader Joes. Well, I mean it was my favorite until HUMMUS + AVO TOAST.
Not only does hummus spice up my morning breakfast, it’s full of health benefits too! It’s a great way to add some protein to your food as well as healthy fats. Plus it contains some essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- 1 piece of whole wheat toast
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 tablespoon of regular hummus
- pinch of cayenne pepper
- pinch of dried basil
- Smash the avocado until it’s spreadable.
- Once you’ve made your toast, spread the avocado on it.
- Spread the hummus on top.
- Sprinkle the cayenne pepper & dried basil over the toast.
Super simple and packed with healthy fats and (most importantly) FLAVOR. It’s really customizable too. I’m planning on trying it with my tomato basil hummus because I literally can’t get enough. Trader Joes knows what’s up in the hummus game.
