We’ve talked about Aunt Flow before on HH|HH, so are you surprised that it’s a topic of conversation again? You shouldn’t be. I mean, someone needs to just break the ice and get this topic out in the open. Women have periods, it’s NOT weird to talk about! So today we’re getting even more specific about this wonderful gift mother nature throws our way every month. Let’s talk TAMPONS. Specifically, hypoallergenic tampons.
I had never really given much thought to what type of tampons I’ve used. Literally, it never crossed my mind. I just sort of grabbed whatever was at the front of the drug store and went on my merry way.
No thoughts whatsoever.
But it’s dawned on me that I should probably pay more attention to what I’m putting in my body (literally). And as always I did my research.
+ Most tampons are made from materials such as cotton, rayon, or another pulp fiber. These materials are bleached with chlorine, which leads to toxic byproducts including dioxins and furans. Thes byproducts can lead to endometriosis and cancer.
+ On top of that, the cotton used to make tampons is probably sprayed with PESTICIDES. Ew. In fact, 26% of the world’s pesticides are sprayed on cotton. And they are known to be a carcinogenic and endocrine disruptor.
+ Tampons, in general, are used in an extremely (if not the most) sensitive and absorbent part of a women’s body. And since most tampons are far from pure, when chemicals come in contact with your–errr–lady parts, they are absorbed directly into your bloodstream without being filtered through any organs.
+ PLUS, tampons are left in place for hours at a time, for 5-7 days a month, every month. I mean, that’s way too much exposure to chemicals for my liking.
So I was very intrigued when Veeda (a hypoallergenic feminine care company) reached out to me! This brand was founded by two Australian guys (yes…GUYS) whose goal is to provide women with high-quality, natural products that are AFFORDABLE.
I mean, how chivalrous, right?!?!
They use eco-friendly practices in their office, production cycles, packaging and marketing materials. And Veeda gives back to the community by supporting organizations that protect the environment and advance family health and wellness on a global scale. You can learn more about their charitable acts HERE.
So let’s get to the tampons, shall we?
Veeda products are made from hypoallergenic, 100% natural cotton. Conventional tampons and pads from well-known brands are made from blends of bleached cotton and/or synthetic products. They can contain dioxins from the bleaching process, pesticide and herbicide residues, synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances, and dyes. Veeda tampons are 100% cotton and have no chemicals, no synthetics, and no dyes. As a result, Veeda tampons reduce the risk of toxic shock syndrome (TSS), irritation, and allergic reactions.
Sooooo I mean, I’m already SOLD.
Also, Veeda even offers applicator free tampons. Anyone ever tried this? I’m very curious. And they offer tampons ranging from “lite” absorbency to super plus. So every stage of your cycle is covered.
And before everyone asks…no, I can’t say that I actually feel a difference using an hypoallergenic tampon versus a regular one. But I have better peace of mind knowing that pesticides & other harmful chemicals are not being absorbed into my body.
I just feel like the fewer chemicals in my life, the better.

Talk soon, babes!
