I’m going to start like a new ‘mini series’ called Loving Lately. It’ll be anything that I’m totally OBSESSING over in the current moment. You know, activewear, restaurants, beauty products, people, and in this case girl power & adidas!
So let me start by saying I LOVE empowering other gal pals. I think it’s so important & we all should be about girl power more often. I know, ‘girl power’ is so cliché but for lack of a better word, I’m going with it.
Anyway, I jump at any opportunity where I can be a part of a group of girls. The energy is always unreal and every person I meet is so (wait for it) EMPOWERING.
I’m getting a little redundant here.
So the adidas FitnessX event this past Saturday was perfect for me. The idea behind it was to connect with & encourage women not only through our physical fitness, but through every aspect of our lives! I met SO many cool chicks from so many different backgrounds and interests. There were bloggers, social influencers, professional athletes, actresses, personal trainers, you get it. We were all so different! But we all had one thing in common: we LOVE healthy living & and supporting other kick ass babes. So we all meshed together really well.
The day consisted of several different activities.
First, we headed out to the end of Santa Monica Pier for a circuit workout with the one and only Ashley Guarrasi (@ashleyguarrasi on insta!). She’s the cutest, let me tell ya. It was RAINING, which is a practically a foreign concept in LA, so we were all freezing and wet and slipping all over our mats. But Ashley held it together, made the best of the situation, and led a super challenging workout. We did a little bit of everything: HIIT, full body resistance training, and–something I’ve never tried before–shadow boxing.
Shadow boxing/boxing in general is SO FREAKING HARD. I literally felt like my arms were gonna fall off and I LOVED every second of it. The key, I’ve found out, is to act like you’re actually punching something. You know, like a punching bag, pillow, you’re ex’s face, the usual stuff. HA.
Anyway, I’ll definitely be taking a boxing class in the near future because it’s so great for toning your arms! Any places in the LA area you can think of?!
So we ran about a mile to this place called Stone Candle Bar.
Guys. A FREAKING CANDLE FACTORY.
Literal heaven for me.
But okay it gets better…I got to make MY OWN candle. Like a personalized scent and everything. DREAM COME TRUE AMIRITE?!
This was a cool experience for me because I had to exercise my creativity in a way that I’m not really used to. I had to find my own scents and mix and match them until I found the right combination. What was even cooler is that all the girls were helping each other out and giving our input.
My finished scent was grapefruit + acai & bamboo and it’s now my new favorite candle. Needless to say, it made the cut for my Serenity Corner.
Leaf and Petal Co. was the last stop before lunch (of course, we ran there) and we designed our own succulent arrangements.
Sooooo I don’t know the first thing about designing plant arrangements, much less keeping them alive after the fact. But, again, I had to be creative in a way I wasn’t used to.
I liked the way mine turned out, let’s hope I can actually keep it alive. LOL wish me luck.
I like the whole concept of stepping outside of my comfort zone.
And I had a group of inspirational women experiencing it with me.
We ended the day at True Food Kitchen in Santa Monica for a healthy lunch. If you’re in the LA area, this restaurant is a must try. So many healthy & organic options! I went with the hummus and pita crisps and a chopped chicken salad.
PS my iPhone camera hasn’t been working for like ever so I’m really bummed y’all didn’t get to follow along on snap. But I FINALLY got it fixed after a very long and frustrating visit to the Apple Store. So I’m totally blowing up snapchat yet again! Follow along while I post about my daily meals, workouts, and all sorts of healthy tips and tricks!
