Long time no talk!
Well here’s an update on how my life is going.
I did all of my laundry last weekend and I’ve been too busy to fold it so I’ve been living out of laundry baskets for the past week. Relatable, amirite?!
OH and my cat decided to jump to his doom off of my third story balcony yesterday so I spent a good majority of my afternoon hysterically running all over my apartment complex trying to find him, only to discover that some of my nice neighbors picked up him. He’s completely okay but I am now questioning his intelligence. HA.
With all the running around that I do on a day-to-day basis, it’s no surprise that I literally LIVE out of my gym bag most of the time. I go from home to work to meetings to work to working out back to meetings and then to work again. IT NEVER STOPS. I mean, sometimes after I leave my apartment in the morning, I don’t come back until after 9.
So there’s definitely no margin for error when it comes to packing my gym bag.
There have been so many times in the past where I’ll be running around from one activity to the next and NOT have what I need. Do you know how annoying it is to be at a meeting and plan on going to an Uplift class afterward and FORGET my tennis shoes?! It’s sooooo not fun. I’m definitely not into dirty feet.
So I’ve compiled a list of my can’t-live-without-gym-bag-essentials that keep me prepared (and smelling good…LOL) throughout the day.
1}. Headphones: I never go anywhere without my headphones. I can’t get through a workout without music, I mean a good playlist can be a real game changer, ya know? Plus I like wearing headphones when I’m blogging or working on client workouts and I don’t want to be disturbed. It really drowns out the rest of the world & makes it easy to focus.
2}. Headband & hair ties: I always need extra hair ties. Like if I had a never ending supply of hair ties, I would still lose them all. HA. So I always have at a few spare ones on hand. And I like to keep a headband with me too, especially when those unwanted flyaways start sticking to your face from all the sweat and you start looking like a wet dog. What a pretty picture, right? So the headband, at least, keeps those flyaways out of my face.
3}. Dry brush: Recently, I’ve totally jumped on the dry brushing bandwagon. If you don’t know what dry brushing is, find out all the deets in this post. I feel like it should be a post workout requirement. It totally rejuvenates my skin and wakes up the lymph system which can leave you feeling strong, healthy, & energized.
4}. Body oil: I like using natural body oil rather than lotion for my skin. Maybe I’m weird but when I use lotion, I feel like there’s this greasy film that’s left on my body. But oil absorbs into your skin, leaving it smooth and hydrated, so I don’t feel slimy all day. Plus sweating with lotion on your body is the most disgusting feeling ever. Trust me on this and never put lotion on before a workout. You’ll thank me later!
5}. Dry shampoo: Okay so lately I’ve been trying to wash my hair much less. I used to wash it every day because I have SUCH thin hair and it gets greasy really fast. But it’s not good for your hair to wash it every day and the oils your scalp produces is actually good for your hair. So right now, I wash my hair every 2-3 days and I’ve turned to dry shampoo to help keep the oil under control on days I don’t wash my hair.
6}. Volumizing powder: This stuff is a MUST HAVE, especially if you’re on your second or third day without washing your hair. My hair can definitely get flat when I haven’t washed it in awhile, especially if it’s in a ponytail & headband basically 24/7. So this volumizing powder is a life saver. It can even soak up any extra oil in your hair that the dry shampoo didn’t get, plus it makes your hair fuller!
7}. Pre-moistened towelettes: If I’m being perfectly honest, I don’t always shower after every workout. Whoops! Who really has time for that? It’s sooo time-consuming. So skin cleansing towelettes are a total lifesaver. I use them all over my body. They remove any surface dirt, oil, and sweat from your skin and they smell good too! And if you smell anything like I do after a workout, you need to coat yourself with fragrance that way you don’t offend people with your odor when your walk by. LOLz.
8}. Body spray: Again…fragrance, fragrance, FRAGRANCE! I always like to leave the gym smelling clean & fresh.
9}. Basic face makeup: I’m not a huge makeup person; it’s pretty much foreign territory to me. I’m lost when it comes to contour and eyeliner, but I do know a thing or two about covering zits and applying powder. THAT I can do! I have three go-to products that I always use when applying makeup: skin primer, concealer stick, and powder foundation. After wiping off the sweat from my face, makeup is a great way to dull down the post-workout redness of my skin and give me a more clean look for the day. Plus my makeup routine is so simple so it takes like 5 minutes at most. Should I do a post-workout makeup tutorial?!
10}. Deodorant: Because sweaty & smelly armpits are not welcome.
11}. Hairbrush: Thin hair like mine gets tangled so easily! I keep a brush with me at all times. I make sure to always brush from the bottom of my hair to my roots to prevent as much breakage as possible. And I try to brush my hair no more than 2 times a day for the same reason!
Oh, and of course, I keep everything in the CUTEST gym bag from Anthropologie. Because a cute gym bag makes me that more motivated to get everything done.
What’s in your gym bag? Anything that you think I need to add?!
