Who else can relate?
I mean seriously, I’ll eat a huge breakfast and like 10 minutes later my stomach feels like it hasn’t seen food in weeks. Not even my daily apple cider vinegar shots can help me.
I still haven’t decided if my level of hunger is a blessing or a curse, but what I do know is that I find it hard to consistently have healthy food around when that ravishing hunger does strike. When you’re hungry, you grab the first thing that’s available, am I right? And it’s usually a cookie or candy bar or bag or chips.
NOT the healthiest of choices. Empty calories are a no go.
So having healthy snacks on hand during the day is super important. I like not having to stress out in the mornings about what my meals for the day will be so I stock my pantry full of options that way I can just grab them and go without even thinking twice.
Green juice is totally a go-to snack/drink these days. It’s definitely a spin off obsession from my love for green smoothies. Green juice is packed with vitamins and minerals that we don’t always get enough of from our regular diet. Specifically, it has a lot of vitamin A and vitamin C. All green juices taste different, my current fave is this one and I found it at Whole Foods.
Kale chips make a great snack too. I make sure that my snacks can somewhat satisfy my hunger which means fiber-rich foods are important, so I’m digging kale chips. What I love about this brand, in particular, is how many different flavors of kale chips they make. Again, I like my foods to have a lot of vitamins & minerals so the fact that kale chips are FULL of so many vitamins, minerals & antioxidants is a major plus.
Almonds are a great source of healthy fats & they are really high in satiety which means they keep you full longer (for most people anyway. LOLz.). They pair well with all kinds of fruits and I personally love eating them with greek yogurt. The only problem with almonds is they’re SO addictive, I could go through an entire bag in one sitting. I guess there are worse problems to have, though.
Dried fruit is a new thing I’m starting to love. I really hate when fruit gets soggy in a plastic bag or after you eat it, your hands are all sticky and smell like fruit. SO gross. I never have fruit as a snack because of it. But dried fruit offers all the taste & nutrients of your favorite fruits without the mess. Plus crunchy fruit is kind of a weird-but-cool combo that you definitely need to try. I’m currently into dried pineapple & this brand is killing it (again, I got it at Whole Foods).
Dark chocolate is a great thing to always have on hand. Now don’t go eating the entire bar at once (even though it’s so tempting), but dark chocolate can be a great pick-me-up if you’re feeling low energy. It also promotes healthy heart function & helps regulate your heart rate. Chocolove is my ALL TIME favorite brand mainly because of their crystallized ginger dark chocolate flavor. I know, it sounds super weird but I promise it’s the best thing you’ve ever tasted. You can check out their 24 different flavors here.
Protein bars are a great snack to always have on hand. I really love Think Thin because they’re not only a source of protein, but they are high in fiber. I eat protein bars all the time, almost daily, and it makes a great pre-workout snack. The Think Thin bars are low calorie compared to some protein bars that are upwards of 300 calories.
Greek yogurt is last on my list of grab-and-go snacks. I feel like Greek yogurt is so mainstream now, but I can see why since it’s low fat (some have zero fat) and higher in protein than regular yogurts. Just like protein bars, I eat Greek yogurt almost daily. It’s a good source of energy when you need it. I like to make sure that the Greek yogurt I buy comes from grass fed & pasture-based cows. The more natural, the better! My favorite brand is Wallaby Organic and I love the raspberry flavor!
Basically, snacks are a MUST. You get it. No one has time to be hangry anymore.
What’s the snack you can’t live without?
